DESERT ISLAND CASTAWAYS: Mychael Black
Our favorite MM authors a.k.a. castaways are asked, what books, songs and luxury item would they take to a desert island?
This is a monthly series inspired by LezReviewBooks.com’s ‘Desert Island Books’, which in turn is based on BBC’s ‘Desert Island Discs’.
The rules are fairly simple:
List up to ten books, a playlist and one luxury item that you couldn’t do without on a desert island.
Any type of book can be selected, but I ask that at least half are LGBT+ books. Choices should be justified in a paragraph or two. Any number of songs and any type of music is allowed. The luxury item must be inanimate and of no use in escaping the island or allowing communication from outside.

Let’s welcome our May castaway, Mychael Black!
DESERT ISLAND BOOKS:

Indulge Me by Beth Bolden – my absolute all-time fave from her. Kian and Bastian live rent-free in my head.
Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z Brite – the first horror/serial killer book with gay leads that I ever read. Not the first gay book, mind you, but the first with serial killers.
The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien – the single most important book in my life. It’s what sent me down the fantasy road at age 9.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte – one name: Heathcliff. He sparked my love for antiheroes.
Daddy From Flames by Ashe Moon – the first mpreg book I ever read. My obsession with the trope is all Ashe’s fault.
DESERT ISLAND PLAYLIST:
On an island, there’s only one name for me: Jimmy Buffet. I’ve been a Parrothead all my life!
Some faves: Somewhere Over China, Fins, Volcano, Tryin to Reason with Hurricane Season, A Pirate Looks at Forty, Son of a Son of a Sailor, Tin Cup Chalice
LUXURY ITEM
A wide-brimmed hat. LOL I’m a natural redhead. I don’t tan; I lobsterfy!
