DESERT ISLAND CASTAWAYS: B.A. Tortuga

Our favorite MM authors a.k.a. castaways are asked, what books, songs and luxury item would they take to a desert island?

This is a monthly series inspired by LezReviewBooks.com’s ‘Desert Island Books’, which in turn is based on BBC’s ‘Desert Island Discs’.

The rules are fairly simple:

List up to ten books, a playlist and one luxury item that you couldn’t do without on a desert island.

Any type of book can be selected, but I ask that at least half are LGBT+ books. Choices should be justified in a paragraph or two. Any number of songs and any type of music is allowed. The luxury item must be inanimate and of no use in escaping the island or allowing communication from outside.

Let’s welcome our June castaway, B.A. Tortuga

DESERT ISLAND BOOKS

Jumping, Landing and Taking by Julia Talbot – So, this book was inspired by the first gift I gave the author. I fell in love with her as she was writing it. I married her 11 years after she published it. 😀

Bent by Sean Michael – Jim and Marcus are my favorite all-time BDSM couple and I adore them.

IT by Stephen King – I am a huge King fan, and this is my favorite book of all time. I read it when it came out, and I can discuss this story for weeks. Ask me. 😉

Beloved by Toni Morrison – I read this in college, and it damn near killed me with its power. I still have may original copy.

Magic’s Pawn by Mercedes Lackey – I actually love the entire series. It’s my ‘I need to cry’. 😉

Sagebrush and Lace by Sugar Lee Ryder and JD Cutler – Lesbian cowboys, y’all. Seriously. *grins*

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott – I have loved this book my entire life. In some ways, I am Jo March, if Jo was an OCD lesbian desert witchy woman…

Keepers of the Cave by Gerri Hill – This book has it all — FBI agents in love, it’s set in my hometown, the suspense is wild, and… Just go read it.

The Stand by Stephen King – Stu Redman is my hero. Nuff said.

The Dark Half by Dean Koontz – This is the book the encapsulates my adoration for horror novels with the foils covers — readers from the 70s and 80s will understand. There’s voodoo, a cop, demons in a locker — EVERYTHING.

DESERT ISLAND PLAYLIST:

This is the playlist for my latest piece I’m working on, which has the working title of “Cowboy with Triplets” (it won’t last):

Fancy Like by Walker Hayes
That’s My Kind of Night by Luke Bryan
This is How We Roll by Florida Georgia
Drunk On a Plane by Dierks Bentley
I’m in a Hurry by Florida Georgia Line
American Kids by Kenny Chesney
God Bless the Boy by Cody Johnson
Things Dads Do by Thomas Rhett
’Til You Can’t by Cody Johnson
Rescue Me by Chris Young
Not Every Cowboy by Dustin Lynch
Tonight We’re Dancing by Chris Young
Buy Dirt by Jordan Davis and Luke Bryan

LUXURY ITEM

As far as luxury item…my knitting bag — there’s yarn, needles, hooks, pins, a little light, scissors, measuring tapes…

Yeah. That. 😉

ABOUT B.A. TORTUGA

Image

Texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy’s Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her hounds and her beloved wife, texting her grandbabies, and eating Mexican food. When she’s not doing that, she’s writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting, and surfing Pinterest in the name of research. Following their own personal joys, BA and Julia heard the call of the  high desert and they now live in the New Mexico mountains. BA’s personal saviors include her wife, her best friends, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee.

Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to cowboy daddies to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which is committed to giving everyone their happily ever after. With books ranging from hard-hitting BDSM, to fiery passions, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head.
