LAST YEAR I WAS READING…(February 3, 2021)

This meme was created by Reading Marie. It’s a great meme because it’s nice and easy to do.

Here are the rules:

Take your current read and compare it to what you reading this exact time last year. Which one do you like better? What is different about the books? Any special facts/things you want to make note of or bring attention to

This Year I Am Reading…

Cold cases, old enemies, ex-lovers, and vengeful spirits are making life dangerous for psychic medium Simon Kincaide and his boyfriend, homicide detective Vic D’Amato.

I have read the first two Badlands books before and I had my complaints. Book 3, Loose Ends, showed a lot of improvements. I really liked where this is going so far.

Last Year I Was Reading…

Two assassins meet, don’t kill each other, and fall in love.

It’s happily ever after, right?

Not so fast.

This is the final book of action-packed Exit Strategy series. After taking out bad guys and evil relatives, Justin and Gabriel made it official. This pair of mercenary boyfriends are so much fun together! They’ll always be one of my favorite couples.

My 4-star review here.

Today, two very different pairs of established couples duke it out. Interestingly, their stories had a lot of things in common.

Loose Ends is a paranormal mystery featuring mild-mannered psychic medium Simon Kincaide and his bad boy, cop boyfriend, Vic D’Amato. Their book had a more subdued Southern Gothic feel. Exes popped out of nowhere demanding repeats and exacting vengeance. Simon and Vic are both feeling the urge to put a ring on it. Who will pop the questions first?

Final Lover is a bombastic, high-octane romp of two former rival assassins turned lovers. Never serious Justin Mallory and always serious Gabriel Prescott had to protect a father and son targeted by other assassins. There’s a mystery aspect where they try to figure out who contracted the hit. A sorta ex also made his appearance known. Their book ended with a beautiful wedding ceremony. Vows were made, there were plans to retire, yet these two couldn’t resist one more job. Never change boys!

Both books are probably 4 stars but when it comes to their sizzling chemistry, it’s hard to beat Justin and Gabriel.

I’m ending the post with a book I’m looking forward to reading.

1881—Special Agent Gillian Hamilton, magic caster for the Federal Bureau of Magic and Steam, has recovered from injuries obtained while in Shallow Grave, Arizona. Now back in New York City, Gillian makes an arrest on New Year’s Eve that leads to information on a gangster, known only as Tick Tock, who’s perfected utilizing elemental magic ammunition. This report complicates Gillian’s holiday plans, specifically those with infamous outlaw, Gunner the Deadly, who promised they’d ring in 1882 together.

I’m so excited to go another steampunk adventure!

This novel-length follow up to the explosive novella, The Engineer, takes us to New York for that much-awaited New Year rendezvous between Gillian and Gunnar The Deadly. The GR reviews had been fantastic so far! No surprises there. With how things were set in the first book, I’m pretty sure Gillian’s next mission will be just as mind blowing.

What were you reading this time last year?

(I hope it’s as riveting as Morticia’s book)
