SOUNDTRACK: Unhinged by Lydia Kaye
Soundtrack to Necessary Evils: Unhinged by Onley James
I liked how Unhinged the song speaks for Unhinged the book.
What’s your colour underneath
Layers of paint have dried
Chip away to find the truth
Let the wrongs be rightThis part recalls the mystery and their mission to find those who abused Noah.
What lies underneath,
Our ties that bind,
Resistance, fail us now. These lines remind me of Adam’s found family and Noah’s very complicated relationship with his father.
In the black of our eyes
In the beat of our soul
We’re all the same
It just takes one look
To define what you want
So I know what to giveThis stanza reminds of how Adam and Noah navigate their relationship

SOUNDTRACK: Just Stay by Mauve
Soundtrack to Nothing Special VIII: Swat Ed: Fox & Bull by A.E. Via
I just love the way you love me
Please don’t ever change your ways
And I keep all my promises
Don’t you go away, just stay, just stayJust Stay reminds me of Fox who just wanted someone who would commit. He said people love the fantasy but are quick to bail when faced with the harsh realities of dating a SWAT officer.
The song also speaks for Bull who wanted Fox to stay in the ranch forever.

Soundtrack: I’ll Fall With Your Knife by Peter Murphy
Soundtrack to Exposed by H.L. Day
I’ll Fall With Your Knife is a shout-out to the many and much loved knives of the assassin, X. The song is about commitment and there’s nobody more committed to Tate than the gruff killer, who watched over the man for more than a decade. But what I liked best about this song is that it speaks from Tate’s POV. I imagined this playing during the scenes where they were crossing the desert in search of utopia.
“Well if the birds can reach the sky
To this land I’ll be with you
Till the Sun bursts from your side
With my hands I reach to you
When you think your chance is passing by
When you blow your Moon away
I’ll bleed like the reed
Fall with your knife
It’s here I’ll be with you -
SOUNDTRACK: Pray The Devil Back To Hell by Lucinda Williams
Soundtrack to Better The Devil You Know by Bey Deckard
A song about praying the devil back to hell for a book about a bored devil and the serial killer who charmed his pants off.

SOUNDTRACK: Apple Pie by The Scary Jokes
Soundtrack to Game Changers: Role Model by Rachel Reid
Because Harris is smells like apples and the lyrics that goes “Every day’s an apple pie / When I’m with you I’m not so shy / And I almost feel alive in your arms / Help me forget what I’m going through and I’ll give everything to you / It’s the least that I could do” reminds me of how his friendship with Troy helped the hockey player through some difficult times.

SOUNDTRACK: Trouble by Cage The Elephant
Soundtrack to West Coast Forensics: Real Trouble by Elle Keaton
According to the band, Trouble is a song about “honesty and adversity and struggle and stuff like that”. I think it’s apt for a book where one of the main characters obfuscates the truth about his identify, and struggles to rise above his criminal past.

SOUNDTRACK: Wild Heart by Bleachers
Soundtrack to The Kings: Wild Cards: Sleight Of Hand by Charlie Cochet
Because the very determined Gio won the elusive heart of one Sacha ‘Joker’ Wilder.

SOUNDTRACK: Starlight by Jai Wolf feat. Mr. Gabriel
Soundtrack to Sucker For Love Mysteries: Acsquidentally In Love by K.L. Hiers
Starlight for Sloane, the Starkiller. Also the lines, “Wake up in your crystal sky / We’re floating till we fly” and “We’re slowly falling through the night / Illuminating coastlines / Headlights toward the afterlife” reminds me of the part where Loch took Sloane to the city in the stars where the ancient gods sleep and dead go.

SOUNDTRACK: Starstruck by Years & Years
Soundtrack To Aster Valley: Hot As Heller by Lucy Lennox
Pretty much an obvious song choice for a story about the small town sheriff who fell in love with a hot, young Hollywood actor.
-
SOUNDTRACK: Stranger by Covey
Soundtrack to More Heat Than The Sun: Love Is A Stranger by John Wiltshire
The book is written entirely in Ben’s POV so I loved how this song seems to speak from Nikolas’s perspective.
The lines “Oh I’ve been a stranger / Sleeping with you in my bed / I wish I could save you / From the thoughts up in my head” is basically what the book is all about.
“We all come from broken arms / But still I keep you close / I’m an empty hollow shell / On a one way trip to hell / And all these thoughts inside my head / Are fears of loneliness from years I can’t relive” sum up his history and his state of mind. Also, he way he kept Ben in his life through the years.
