SEPTEMBER 2021 PLAYLIST + WRAP UP
September is for getting back to the swing of things.
After taking the whole month of August off to deal with a medical crisis, I was back to work and blogging. September was a so-so-if-busy month. I have a lot to catch up on.
I’ve started a new monthly series featuring MM authors. Desert Island Castaways is where authors are asked which books, playlists, and luxury items they would take to a desert island. I’ve always wanted to do author interviews but I couldn’t think of good questions to ask. When I saw LezReviewBooks.com’s Desert Island Books, I thought it would be a good idea to do something similar.
The first Castaway was bestselling author, Natalina Reis. Check out her answers here. I plan to feature more authors and possibly audiobook narrators as well. I was a bit shy about contacting authors but I was happy to get some responses. Comment below if you have any MM or LGBT+ authors or narrators you want me to feature as a Castaway and I’ll try to get in touch with them.
On a personal note, I finally got my first jab. Yay, Moderna! My mother was the first one to get fully vaccinated. The rest of us would get our second shots on the 25th of October. Go get vaxxed if you haven’t yet. It could save a lot of lives.
At the tail end of September, I joined another virtual silent book reading session. The book I read was A Crown of Iron & Silver by Hailey Turner. I’ve been stuck at the slow parts for a while. The session really helped me get over those draggy bits.
It was fun meeting fellow bookworms. It still feels novel (no pun intended) to verbally talk about books with other people being so used to lone wolfing it most of the time. We only get to meet on the last Saturdays of the month, although the organizers mentioned they might hold sessions more frequently. Crossing my fingers for that.

SONGS OF SEPTEMBER
September opened with 90s band Space with their iconic hit celebrating everything female. We also had indie darlings Cage The Elephant as well as new-to-me EDM artist Jai Wolf collaborating with Mr Gabriel. The rest were also discoveries, starting with favorite solo act Bleachers, electropop singer Christian Cohle and the smiley Dayglow. Rounding up the lists are female-fronted band The Scary Jokes, old favorite Methyl Ethel, and the sadly now defunct The Happy Children.

September was a great month for reading. All four books have 4- and 4.5-star ratings.
Much awaited Charlie Cochet offering Sleight Of Hand was as fantastic as expected, giving us all the delightful things we could ever hope for fan-favorite Joker and Gio.
Role Model was a true game-changer, rekindling my interest in Rachel Reid‘s beloved hockey romance series, Game Changers.
Real Trouble was definitely worth the return trip to Piedras Island in Elle Keaton‘s new spinoff series, West Coast Forensics. The series opener gave us a solid investigation and a second chance romance worth rooting for.
Acsquidentally In Love is an effervescent take on the Lovecraftian mythos, complete with a lovable, mischievous tentacular god and a super sweet insta-love romance.
MANGA
- Kemonomichi wo Tadotte – Satsuki Yuki
- Ishibashi Defence Corps Individual – Unohana
- Koi Saku Potager – Mita Homura
- Apart de Itooshii Kimi ga Naku – Ohtaka Tomo
Really enjoyed all the manga this month. Faves are Ishibashi Defence Corps Individual, a hilarious chronicle of one man’s devotion to his beloved best friend and Koi Saku Potager, a beautifully illustrated eat, plant, love story.
