DESERT ISLAND CASTAWAYS: Colette Davison
Our favorite MM authors a.k.a. castaways are asked, what books, songs and luxury item would they take to a desert island?
This is a monthly series inspired by LezReviewBooks.com’s ‘Desert Island Books’, which in turn is based on BBC’s ‘Desert Island Discs’.
The rules are fairly simple:
List up to ten books, a playlist and one luxury item that you couldn’t do without on a desert island.
Any type of book can be selected, but I ask that at least half are LGBT+ books. Choices should be justified in a paragraph or two. Any number of songs and any type of music is allowed. The luxury item must be inanimate and of no use in escaping the island or allowing communication from outside.
Let’s welcome our May castaway, Colette Davison
DESERT ISLAND BOOKS
The Sweetest Goodbye by Christina Lee – my go-to happy place novella.
Just Drive by L.A. Witt – started my love of age-gap romance!
Simon Vs the Homo Sapiens by Becky Albertalli – a fun YA read.
Not So Vanilla by Morgan Noel – this was the book that made me want to try writing MMM.
Saving Ren by Sloane Kennedy – So. Many. Feels. Also gorgeous narration in the audiobook version.
Out of Focus by L.A. Witt – inspired me to write BDSM, although my take on it is significantly lighter.
Charlie’s Rainbow by Victoria Sue – such a lovely story with great characterisation.
Off Base by Annabeth Albert – I loved this housemates to lovers story.
Rescue Me by K.M. Neuhold – emotional and very, very sexy.
At Home by Carly Marie – this was the first Daddy kink book I ever read. I adore it.
DESERT ISLAND PLAYLIST:
The only playlist I really listen to is my own, which is mostly songs put together thanks to Spotify’s Discover Weekly playlist. I listen to that every week and then move my favourites (one or two songs at most) onto a playlist that I then listen to the rest of the time. So I guess my cheating playlist pick is the Discover Weekly one! I’d get new music to listen to every week.
LUXURY ITEM
My luxury item would have to be my laptop. If I’m going to be stuck on a desert island I want to be able to write! Of course, I’d also need a solar battery pack or something to power it. That’s allowed, isn’t it?
ABOUT COLETTE DAVISON
Colette’s personal love story began at university, where she met her future husband. An evening of flirting, in the shadow of Lancaster castle, eventually led to a fairytale wedding. Several years later, she’s enjoying her own ‘happy ever after’ in the north of England with her husband, two beautiful children and her writing.
Ever since she could hold a pen, Colette has been writing stories. Always an avid reader and lover of the arts, Colette graduated in Theatre Studies from Lancaster University in 1999, and in English Literature from the Open University in 2010. After studying for a P.G.C.E. in secondary education, and subsequently teaching english and drama for six years, Colette chose to become a stay at home mum and to focus on her writing.
Colette’s first M/M romance, Why I Left You, was published in November 2017. Since then she has continued to write books that are sweet, sexy, and heartwarming.
