THE LONELY HEROES SERIES – BOOK FOUR
Lawrence ‘Lawry’ Schatz –
Self-medicating? As often as possible.
My life has been upended with a three-word text, and a meeting with my boss’s boss nearly finishes me off. I’m in a downward spiral, and I have no intentions of pulling out. My brother Hank has other ideas. He’s called in a big gun, Gabriele Torrente, who drags me to New York and pushes me to get myself together.
At a family event, I hook up with the hottest guy I’ve ever met, intending to just relieve some tension. The guy turns out to be more than I could imagine. He’s sassy, opinionated, and he completely sets me on my ear. I can tell Maxim Partee won’t put up with my crap. I made a huge mistake with him, but he still agrees to be my friend, and that is precisely what I desperately need. I live under no illusions he’ll ever need me in return.
Maxim ‘Maxi’ Partee –
Lonely? Very much so.
Power bottom? You bet your… bottom.
I have a successful business—two of them as a matter of fact. I have friends I cherish, and I love my life. I keep telling myself it’s more than enough for me. I choose the men I spend time with, and it’s always on my terms.
An unexpected hook-up at a birthday party leads me down an unanticipated path where I meet a man who has been crushed by mountain of disastrous events, and he’s doing his damnedest to push everyone away so he can quietly self-destruct. Why in the hell can’t I just walk away?
This fictional story is approximately 86,000 words in length. It is the fourth book in “The Lonely Heroes Series.” TRIGGER WARNING: Discussions of suicide and description of an attempt.

I hurriedly did my business, expecting him to follow me into the bathroom. When he didn’t, I wondered if I’d misread his signals, but finding him leaning against the wall when I walked out assured me I hadn’t. “You could have come inside. I’m not a virgin,” I joked.
He looked into my eyes and placed a gentle hand on my neck. “You’re better than that.” He then proceeded to skim his lips over my neck without making a direct purchase, his warm, moist breath lighting sparks in its wake. It was heated, and it was… voluptuous. His lips were full and warm on my body, and his grip was all-encompassing. I was off guard for a moment, but then I tilted my head to grant him access to my throat. The guy was tall—well over six foot—and he had muscles. His frame was lean but solid. He was sexy as fuck, and hell if I wasn’t down for a good time.
He nipped at my jaw before he kissed his way to my Adam’s apple biting a little which lit my bones on fire, nose to toes. His hands found their way to my ass, and he squeezed, turning me into the wall so he was blocking me from the line of sight of the people in the room. A gentleman? That was surprising.
Lawry kissed his way across my cheek to my ear. “I, uh, I don’t have my own place yet, as you well know, but I can get us a room at the hotel across the street. That is, if I can get away from my handlers. That appeal to you?” he whispered, his low-pitched voice vibrating in my ear and nearly causing me to hyperventilate.
I couldn’t speak, so I nodded and handed him my phone. “Give me an hour and text me a room number. You got supplies?” I asked, not having come prepared myself because I never imagined I’d be getting laid that night. The walk of shame the next morning would be well worth it if everything came together.
Lawry punched in his number and took a selfie before he handed the phone back to me. “I’ll see you in an hour,” he told me as he kissed my neck again. He pulled back and winked, making my stomach sink to my feet. He was a sexy mother fucker; I’d give him that.

I grew up in the rural Midwest before moving to the East Coast with a dashing young man who swept me off my feet, and we’ve now settled in the desert of Nevada. I write M/M contemporary romance, subgenres: sweet low angst, age-gap, cowboys, mysteries, and military/mercenary to name a few. I am a firm believer in “Love is Love” regardless of how it presents itself, and I’m a staunch ally of the LGBTQIA+ community. I have a loving, supportive family, and I feel blessed by the universe and thankful every day for all I have been given. I’m old enough to know how to have fun, but too old to care what others think about my definition of a good time. In my heart and soul, I believe I hit the cosmic jackpot. Cheers!
