FIRST LINES FRIDAY 56: Flesh Wounds

First Line Fridays” is by Hoarding Books and is all about the first line of a current/upcoming read. Friday 56 is a meme hosted by Freda’s Voice, where you turn to page 56 (or 56%) in what you’re reading a find a snippet that jumps out at you. The idea to combine the two came from Kat @ Here There Be Dragons

I found this meme on The Writerly Way. And I’m doing this on a Thursday just to be difficult.

FIRST LINE

SILVER CARVED their names into my back, one by one.

Constantin.

Vano.

Elena.

My brothers and my mother.

To write a name in blood is a disgrace. To carve a name in flesh is mockery, and it was the lightest sentence imposed on me the night the Majerus wolves discovered my unit within their walls. The night I relived every time I dreamed.

THE DEVIL CAME CALLING on a particularly beautiful Sunday afternoon. The sky had been blue the day I promised myself to him as well, even though the horrors the moon beheld that night chased away any beauty it held. In his mind, it didn’t matter that I had been brainwashed or that he had taken everything from me and given me only himself to cling to. A promise was a promise, and my debt was coming due

Vengeance.

My purpose, carved deeper into my soul than their names carved in my flesh.

Dominic.

The man who took everything from me, my own personal devil in shifting flesh.

Ursache.

My pack. The high-born family of wolves I’ve sworn my life to protect, even if my dying breath is pledged to another.

Mason…

My everything. Friend, confidant, enemy, lover. Most dangerous of all, he would become the reason I lived if I let him. He is the one thing I won’t allow Dominic to take from me. Love is not a luxury I can afford, but the sweetness of revenge has nothing on the taste of him…

The first book Exhale of the Flesh and Bone series was so-so but Bleed blew me away by being one of the most gripping, heart-wrenching shifters books I’ve read so far. Definitely recommended!

My review here.
