Can Cassius and Morgan overcome an elusive enemy and save a young girl’s life?

Eden Monroe has spent her entire existence believing she has no magic. Shunned by her mother Brianna and the magical bureau Hexa, she runs away from home when she is forced to embrace a future she never chose, only to fall into the hands of ghastly monsters from the Nine Hells. After being rescued by a mysterious Dryad with secrets of his own, Eden realizes there is more to her past and future than she could ever have imagined.

When San Francisco PD asks Argonaut to assist them in solving a series of strange bank robberies, Cassius Black and Morgan King uncover a disturbing plot that points to an unknown artifact hidden somewhere in the city. Their investigation soon has them crossing paths with a desperate Brianna, who seeks their help in finding her missing daughter. When the witch reveals the shocking circumstances surrounding her daughter’s birth as well as the deadly magic sealed inside the young girl’s body, the Argonaut agents realize their case is linked to Eden and the weapon of devastating power the bank robbers are after.

Can Cassius and Morgan defeat the malevolent organization behind it all and save Eden from her cursed fate? Or will the young girl suffer a destiny worse than death itself?

Spellbound is the second novel in the gay urban fantasy romance series Fallen Messengers. This is an MM paranormal adventure full of action, magic, snark, and a host of steamy angels and demons.

Just finished this. It’s the second book of the epic urban fantasy series, Fallen Messengers. Still has the crazy level-ups but the fight scenes are a smidge less spectacular than the first book. It has that middle book feel but super entertaining and would look amazing on screen.

Last Year I Was Reading…

Ex-SAS soldier Ben Rider falls in love with his enigmatic married boss Sir Nikolas Mikkelsen, but Nikolas is living a lie. A lie so profound that when the shadows are lifted, Ben realises he’s in love with a very dangerous stranger. Ben has to choose between Nikolas and safety, but sometimes danger comes in a very seductive package.

Read this for that hella intriguing blurb. Very convoluted plot with a couple or so ridiculous scenes. It also turned out to be quite dark.

My 4-star review here.

Today we have an urban fantasy and a contemporary spy thriller. The biggest thing they have in common are secrets up the wazoo. Both have mystery, action, government agents, and family drama. Both feature people on the run. One is a teenager escaping a gilded cage. The other is a spy couple trying to evade the target on their backs..

The biggest difference between them is that the current read has multiple 3rd person POVs while last year’s read is from a single third person POV. The current has a more humorous tone and stars an establish couple. It’s peopled with all sorts of magic users., from angels, demons, dryads and so on. Last year’s has a darker, more sinister atmosphere and stars ex-military secret agent having an affair with his older, enigmatic and married boss.

Spellbound picks up after the events of Fractured Souls and follows Cassius Black, Morgan King, and their Argonaut team as they work a case connected to their last one. It also introduces Eden Monroe, the teenage daughter of top Hexa agent Brianna and her complicated relationship with her mother. Having enough of her mother’s controlling ways, she ran away only to discover that her mother had been keeping big, big secrets from her since birth. Now, those secrets are exploding out of her.

Ecstatic to see where this series is heading because it looks like it will focus on one major agency per book. This means I’m meeting Cass’ ex and Cabalista leader, the demon Victor, soon. I haven’t seen him on page yet, but I love the guy already. Also, since Spellbound is told in multiple POVs, we might get his POV too! ***happy dance*** (Yes, team Victor here. The only thing I like about Morgan is that he genuinely adores Cass)

Love is a Stranger is the first book of the spy romance saga, More Heat Than The Sun. The story is from the POV of Ben Rider, a spy involved with his boss, Nikolas Mikkelsen. Nikolas is married to a high-ranking lady from the royal family. One of their missions had repercussions that hit close to home, sending Nikolas and Ben on the run. It also revealed the horrific life of a teen Nikolas under an abusive father.

I almost passed this up because of the cheating part, but at the same time, I was curious how the author would make this work. Pulled it off quite spectacularly it turned out, because I was swept away with the crazy awesome chemistry. The first parts are worth the slog because towards the latter half, the twisty turny plot worked its magic and unloaded secrets after dark secrets. How well do you truly know the person you love the most?

Between teenagers and adults, run if one must, but the past always has a way of biting one’s ass.

I’m ending the post with a book I’m looking forward to reading.

he third book in the thrilling Shadows of London series.

Action, MM romance and adventure combine on the streets of London. Time is running out for John “Dom” Domenici.

It’s not just Kempthorne’s secrets bubbling to the surface of London’s streets …

Outmanoeuvred at every turn by the figure known as “M”, only Alexander Kempthorne can free Dom, but juggling the horrors of his own past, containing a rising preternatural threat and the twisted machinations of “M” might just be too much, even for Kempthorne. Can Kage Mitchell be trusted to help?

Alexander Kempthorne lost an agent before. He’ll not lose another. He’ll do anything to save Dom, and if that means revealing who and what he truly is, then his time has come.

Ridiculously excited for this because it has Kempthorne’s POV!

What were you reading this time last year?

(I hope it’s as riveting as Morticia’s book)
