The Selkie’s Mate is book 2 of the Waves of Fate series. It is best read after book 1, The Selkie’s Coat.

As they walk off the dance floor after the traditional first dance, I catch up with them and hand over Gregory’s pelt, which he left so haphazardly flung over the back of his chair. Out of fond habit, I chastise him. “You really must be more careful with this, Gregory. Good thing Daniel is here to take care of it for you. It is a wonder you haven’t lost it before.”

As Gregory rolls his eyes at me, his mate surprises me with a strong hug. 

“Thank you,” Daniel says with sincerity, “for taking care of Gregory before he found me.”

I’m nearly choked up with a mix of mostly happy emotions. “You are welcome.” I nod to show him how much his words mean to me.

Gregory’s mate offers me a wink as he steps back. “Don’t think I didn’t notice you looking at my best friend. If you don’t treat him well, I will hurt you,” he offers in a voice so jovial, his intended threat sounds all the more menacing.

I’m caught off guard and blink at him, before my joy at finding Henri overcomes my surprise. I smile at the happy couple as my selkie takes over my voice and speaks from my soul. 

“Oh, no, Daniel. If I ever hurt Henri, I will cut out my own heart. Of that, you have my solemn vow.”

Daniel looks surprised and Gregory, amused, but I step away, as I’ve spotted my mate across the ballroom.  

Henri and I spend the rest of the evening in an odd, but still exhilarating, dance of flirting and feigned annoyance. By the time I catch his hand and pull him onto the ballroom floor for a slow dance, I feel buzzed on the new emotions and thoughts I’m experiencing simply from his proximity.
