Jonas’s father expresses his enthusiasm about drag queen Conchita Wurst’s victory at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. Hence, his 18-year-old son works up the courage to come out as a homosexual and introduce his boyfriend to his parents … but unexpectedly, his father’s euphoria about the tolerance and open-mindedness displayed at the Song Contest comes to a sudden end.

Batty Boy is an uncompromising short film exploring the complexities of the black gay coming out experience through the eyes of young Dolcie a Black British gay boy of Caribbean heritage as he faces the struggles of fitting in with a community posing strong cultural homophobic beliefs. Set against the backdrop of a dancehall black gay clubbing scene a homophobic song being played triggers Dolcie to remember a series of intense past memories that were influential in setting him on the path to becoming an openly Black gay man.
