Loving Lennox
By KD Ellis
Out in Austin, Book 4
Riley didn’t know home wasn’t a place… It’s a person.
Riley would rather sell himself on the streets again than go back home. Only a chance encounter with a stranger saved him from becoming another statistic as a teenager, but now he’s aging out of the youth shelter and has nowhere left to go-until a kind act from the shelter’s director sends him straight to Lennox.
When Lennox’s older sister begs him to rent out his spare room to a kid about to become homeless, he gets way more than he bargained for. He expects an acne-spotted, Red-Bull-bingeing teenager. What he does not expect is Riley.
Riley, who has a dominant streak a mile wide but somehow submits so beautifully.
Riley, who has a tough exterior but hides a sensitive soul.
Riley, who might just be what Lennox never knew he was looking for.

“Can we start over?” Lennox had asked.
Then, before Riley could even agree, Lennox slammed the door in his face.
It left him with a rather odd feeling in his belly. Part of him was stunned by the abruptness but another part of him was amused, while a still smaller part felt nervous, uncertain if this was the moment that he’d find himself walking the streets again.
Riley didn’t know what he expected, but this certainly wasn’t it. When Ms. Ally had suggested Riley rent her younger brother’s spare room, he’d expected Lennox to be…well, more like the cardigan-wearing man with crazy hair he’d met all those years ago in the kitchen. He had a foggy memory of finding the man mildly attractive but never really gave him much thought after that. He’d seen the man again, of course, but normally only for a few seconds in the distance.
The only other thing Ms. Ally said was that Lennox was an artist and that sometimes, he got lost in his own little world. Riley had assumed that meant when he was working, he didn’t like distractions.
He hadn’t thought that it meant Lennox would show up a half hour late, wearing glittery eyeliner that did distracting things to his amber-specked eyes, with a strip of blue paint in his dark hair.
Riley stared at the smooth wood, his teeth digging into his lip. He must have missed something. Was it something he said? Had Lennox actually hated his Pride nails and just not wanted to say anything?
Unlikely, considering the man’s sister ran an LGBTQ youth shelter.
A few awkward seconds later, just as Riley was about to pull his phone out and call Ms. Ally for help, Lennox cracked the door open a few inches and peered through the gap. “You’re supposed to knock.” Then, the door was slammed shut a second time.
Riley knocked.
Immediately, Lennox threw the door open wide. “Hello, you must be Riley! You’re late, you should have been here”—Lennox peered at his bare wrist—“several minutes ago.”
Riley couldn’t help smiling. “Sorry.”
“Oh, no worries. I was just um…” Lennox peered down at the bag of groceries. “Hmm. I suppose I should have put those away first. Ah well. You’ll just have to pretend you don’t see them, and that you don’t see me finishing getting the room all set. You can do that, right?” The look Lennox shot him was so hopeful that Riley couldn’t do anything but nod. “Great!” Lennox stood in the doorway for a long moment before frowning. “Why are you still on the porch?”
