This Year I Am Reading…
Once bitten. Twice burned. Forever bonded.
Don’t miss this riveting and romantic spin-off series from Jenn Burke, author of Not Dead Yet.
Paranormals are dying. All over the city, with no explanation and only one thing in common: their magic is missing.
Vampire and private investigator Evan Fournier isn’t supposed to be taking on paranormal cases, but when the murderer hits close to home, he agrees to look into it. The last thing he expects is to become a target himself—and then to become irrevocably bonded to the man who just tried to kill him.
With his memory gone and his soul bonded to a stranger, former firefighter Colin Zhang wants to be anywhere else. He doesn’t have a damn clue why he just tried to kill Evan, and he didn’t even know about magic until just now. The sooner he can get back to his real life, the better.
But every time either of them tries to leave, pure agony stops them short. Forced to work with Evan or suffer the consequences, Colin must excavate the secrets buried in his missing memories while battling two rising threats: the conspiracy behind the murder, and his mutual attraction to the bond mate he never wanted.

A slumpy couple of weeks for me. I picked this up because I heard it had a unique take on fated mates. I’m only a few chapters in. It’s going well so far.
Last Year I Was Reading…
JEAN
The past has a way of catching up with you, even if you are immortal. I’ve spent thousands of years as the valet and companion to the powerful King of All Shifters. It has been my honor and duty to protect, serve, and advise him. I never intended to fall in love with him. My past is filled with death and bloodshed, but I never once regretted keeping Alarick safe. Now an evil I thought long gone has resurfaced, determined to kill Alarick and plunge the world into chaos. Saving Alarick means revealing the truth about myself. I don’t know what’s worse, failing to protect the king I love, or watching him turn away from me in disgust when he discovers what I really am.
KING ALARICK
As King of All Shifters, my powers are connected to the cosmos, and I have been around since the dawn of time. There are few things that can kill me. Unfortunately, one of those things has escaped its prison and is set to destroy me. The only weapon that can defeat this creature is the Scythe of Kronos, which has been missing for nearly as long as I have lived. When Jean and I set out on a quest to find the scythe, questions I had long ignored must now be answered. What is Jean’s connection to this evil? Why will he trust me with his life but not his secrets? As my most trusted valet, and my greatest friend, surely nothing that happens along this perilous journey can change what I feel in my heart for him. Or can it?

A fabulous finale to a fantastic series. I loved the big doofus King Alarick and his very loyal Jean!
My 5-star review here.
Today we have two paranormals with the fated mates theme. The current is between two enemies, the former is between two best friends. Magic is present in both books. They each have a humorous tone as well. This year’s book is a mystery populated with all sorts of magical creatures while last year’s is an action/adventure focusing on shifters. The new one is a series opener, while the other is the finale.
All Fired Up is the spin-off to Not Dead Yet featuring Evan Fournier, Vampire King Hudson’s protégé. Hud and Wes are on a trip to London and Evan was left in charge of their PI company. A case of paranormal creatures seeming to fall into a coma was brought to his notice. Despite warnings from Hud not to take on anything paranormal, Evan set about to investigate.
I’m not yet on the part where Evan and Colin meet. I’m looking forward to some enemies-to-lovers fun and to finding out what the unique twist is. Evan is a vampire. I don’t know what kind of creature Colin is yet but I have my guesses. Something to do with fire and Asian creatures most likely. The rest of the cast are witches, shifters, and in the case of Wes, a god. The book opens the Ashes & Dust series. Can’t say much yet but it’s a very promising start.
The King And His Vigilant Valet is the series finale of Paranormal Princes. It’s the story of Shifter King Alarick and his best friend/valet/adviser Jean. The two have been bosom buddies for a millennium. Unknown to the rather clueless king, Jean has been in love with him since the beginning. Now an evil creature is after the king. The two friends embark on a quest to find the one weapon that can kill it. And Jean is forced to reveal his secret identity to save his king.
Alarick is the King of Shifters who set his children on quests which also helped them find their mates. Unknown to him, his very own mate was right under his nose all along. This one is a ridiculously adorable, schmoopy, fluffy love story. The twists were very unexpected. I would never have guessed the real purpose of the quests, Jean’s identity, and why he is blind. Talk about devotion!
Stumbling upon a fated mate among the enemy ranks is a rare and precious thing. Rarer still is one secretly serving a thousand years of love and devotion to a spectacularly oblivious friend.
I’m ending the post with a book I’m looking forward to reading.
In need of work and a change of scenery, Aussie ex-pat Jayden Turner agrees to a short-term chef position at a Bed and Breakfast over the Christmas holidays. After all, how hard could it be in a small town in the mountains of Montana? What he finds is a grand old house in a beautiful town, and his new boss is gorgeous, gay, and single.
After his divorce, Carter “Cass” Campion bought his great-aunt’s rundown country manor in his home town, and he’s determined to get it ready for the busy holiday period. Recently out as gay, he’s been focused solely on his business and hasn’t had time for a man. Not that many gay men come through Hartbridge . . .
As his new clients arrive, and being away from his two kids, celebrating Christmas is the last thing on Cass’s mind. But his new chef has other ideas. And if there’s one thing on his Christmas Wish List this year, Jayden can make it come true.
This guy made it to Cover Of The Month for November. Now I want to read his book.
What were you reading this time last year?
(I hope it’s as riveting as Morticia’s book)
