ABC BOOK CHALLENGE – D
This seems like a fun challenge to participate it. Let’s see how many letters I can get.
D is devils, dream thieves and dark ones.
MOST MEMORABLE READS WITH THE LETTER D:
I like how those Desert Eagles look like they’re cuddling. We get Ethan’s POV here! I nearly died.
I am so tired of metaphorical uses of devil on book titles, I gave a big hurrah when Devil Take Me was released. With stories ranging from rom-com to full on gore, this anthology puts the Devil on the spotlight. It was a blast!
Sebastian St. Vincent. The quintessential rake with whom all historical romance male love interests pale in comparison.
Grey finally comes out to play.
Ronan. Love him.
One of my Japanese acquaintance recommended this book because the detective was a physics major and the suspect was a math professor, both of which were related to my undergraduate degree. The twists were very interesting. One of the most enjoyable mysteries I have read.
If someone went around interviewing people what they think about me, my neighbors will say I am an ill-mannered weirdo who throw horrendous tantrums. Partly true especially when I wasn’t yet on meds but I don’t feel the need to explain that to them. The Daughter of Time was memorable because Jennifer Tey took one notorious villain and peeled off layers exposing the misunderstood human beneath.
Watch series is an all-time favorite of mine. Daywatch is the second book and sheds some light on the dark ones which of course totally drew me to their side.

It?s now their summer vacation, and yet, nothing has happened between the two of them! What?s worse? he discovers that he wasn?t actually Ayase?s first kiss, and now regrets kissing him.
Best thing about all this is Rui. The rest was plain boring

REVIEW: Don’t Let Go by Harper Fox
Tyack & Frayne: Don’t Let Go – Harper Fox
Whatโs haunting Lee Tyack? Heโs moved in with Gideon Frayne, and theyโre both loving their new lives. But the shadow is still there โ a voice from hell that torments clairvoyant Lee, and which even the pragmatic copper Gideon can hear.
Gideonโs determined to protect his lover. But after a serious injury on duty, Gideon finds out the hard way that he needs protection too. His jobโs on the line and heโs scared. Worst of all, he thinks he knows who that voice belongs to โ and he canโt stop Lee from heading off to confront this most terrifying ghost from his past.
When the full spring moon rises over Cornwallโs rugged coast, and the veil between the worlds grows thin, Tyack and Frayne must join forces to solve a decades-old mystery that still has the power to tear their world apart.
A couple of years ago, I started on Tyack & Frayne. It was OK but book two, Tinsel Fish, wasn’t all that spectacular and I dropped the series. I passed too hasty a judgment it turned out because Don’t Let Go, the third book, succeeded in captivating me this time.
Some things I liked:
Zeke, who was introduced on Tinsel Fish, was a revelation. Gideon’s Methodist preacher brother showed Lee and Gid that he wasn’t the stone cold religious conservative Gid thought he was. Loved his dry sense of humor.
Lee and Gideon had moved in together and I totally loved how their relationship grew. Gid was a stubborn git when faced with his convalescence but Lee, bless him, dealt with it all like a saint. That’s true love for you.
Meeting Lee’s family and getting some closure. Locryn is a beautiful name. Lee and Gid exorcised a monster from the past. Boy, was it creepy, especially when listened to at wee hours of the night.
Once again, Harper Fox made me want to go to Cornwall and visit these two men. Her trademark lyrical prose is best read with a British accent and Tim Gilbert did a good job making it all come to life. The way HF describes Bodmin, the imagery she used, was very evocative. I’m glad I gave this series another chance. While it does meander a bit, it delivered a riveting and emotional story. I have loved Lee and Gid’s chemistry from the get go and here they are evolving into a comfortable domesticity which is just lovely and ‘normal’ in contrast to all the excitement of chasing criminals, ghosts and psychic monsters. Someday, when they are both old men, they could rest in front of the fire and feel nostalgic about all this but for now, they’re still up for another adventure in book 4, Kitto.
P.S.

He found himself gazing through stardust and sunshine at Lee Tyack’s hand. He smiled. He’d known it anywhere, even though just now he couldn’t quite get his eyes open and was watching it through sunny streaks between eyelashes. The hand was cupped gently around his.

20 QUESTIONS BOOK TAG
I kinda have a thing for questionnaires. I used to work for a market research firm conducting surveys over the phone. This is a 20 Questions Book tag. Some of the questions were similar to the other tags but this is still fun to answer. Borrowed from The Book of Jess
How many books are too many in a series?
Okay so Whyborne & Griffin goes up to 11 which is okay because it’s Whyborne’s birthday. Psycop is now on the tenth and no end in sight which is fine because Vic and Jacob. But normally, I don’t have the patience to go through several installments. So unless the author’s first name is Jordan, I’m sticking to standalones, trilogies and novellas.
How do you feel about cliff-hangers?
The trick to cliffhangers is waiting until all the books are released before diving in. Easy to do if trilogy, if not, you’re doomed!
Hardback or paperback?
Paperback. Because they easily fit in my bag.
Favorite book?
This is probably one of the most difficult questions to ask a bookworm.
I’m narrowing it down to my current favorite which is
Least favorite book?
Now this one’s easy…
All of these are DNF’s except for His True Nature by Silvia Violet which I finished only because it was a short story.
Love Triangleโฆ yes or no?
NO, just NO!
The most recent book you couldnโt finish?
I tried. I’m warming up to the setting but it’s just not getting there
A book youโre currently reading?
I abandoned them before but Lee and Gid convinced me to give them a second chance. So far, they’re making it worth my while.
The last book you recommended to someone?
My father likes this one:
The oldest book youโve read (based on publication date)?
According to GR:
Published in 1499. I couldn’t remember reading this. What I remember was The Complete Kama Sutra, translated by Alain Danielou.
The newest book youโve read (based on publication date)?
Published February 1, 2019. I have yet to read books released this month.
Bad Valentine series review here
Favorite author?
K.J. Charles.
Here’s a link to an article explaining why she’s awesome.: What Makes KJ Charles Such a Damn Good Writer? by Michael Jensen
Buying books or borrowing them?
I have sepanx feels when I have to return a book I really like so might as well buy my own.
A book you dislike that everyone else loves?
Funny that this reminded me of Lolita, which I liked but Call Me By Your Name bored me to death.
Bookmarks or dog-ears?
Bookmarks are cute. I like designing my own.
A book you can reread over and over?
I hardly reread anything. The ones I did I went through different formats, print, ebook and audio.
Can you read while listening to music?
I used to but I’m more into audiobooks now.
Multiple POVs or one POV?
For romance, it’s always a thrill to get both POVs.
Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days on average?
I want to read a book in one sitting but I have to space it out over multiple days. My eyes are easily strained nowadays so I have to do limit my reading time to an hour per day. Bummer.

ABC BOOK CHALLENGE – C
This seems like a fun challenge to participate it. Let’s see how many letters I can get.
C is cruel, captivating creatures.
MOST MEMORABLE READS WITH THE LETTER C:
Of course.
They’re not the most high brow of the genre but I collect this cozy little Cat Who books because CATS+MYSTERY = ADDICTION.
This is a precious, precious little snippet because it gave us a glimpse inside David Cyprian’s closely guarded heart. Also, his friendship with Silas is one of the best things about A Society of Gentlemen.
An all-time favorite. I don’t like the zombie genre but Creature has a special place in my heart for being one of the most emotionally satisfying book I’ve read.
Cronin’s Key is memorable not only because it is a well-written story about fated ones, vampires, alt-history and Egyptology but also because it’s sequel was such a huge disappointment
Jude and Cardan’s hate-sex vibes are so strong they should combust any minute now. The best fae book I’ve read for a long time.
Memorable for the fact that everybody loved this but it significantly failed to impress me.
